Serious sam 2 crouch
Escorting the tank crew through town was just plain old suck. At least the 88 crews wouldn't spot you until you were physically able to see them. oh, well, I guess I'll just walk on down the road, they won't be expecting that.
Find the enemy gun emplacements huh? Well, I'll just take my binoculars up this hill and. And its immediately evident that you're really still in a medium size room with trees painted on the walls and a sky painted on the ceiling. Outside - ugh! It's just ugly, whatever year it is. The indoor environments all look good, and the constrained path feels more plausible. The game works significantly better indoors. The briefings make no sense, not that it matters because you can only go one direction anyway, just follow the dot and shoot whatever you encounter multiple times and press use when you see red. Not that it matters, because gunfire in top secret bases rarely seems to get anyones interest anyway. On the first mission you're in enemy territory and have - a rifle? No knife, no silenced weapon, no automatic weapon. Go stand here and snipe germans who line up in towers like a duck shoot, then go alone into this building and kill everyone, then stand and wait for your buddies to script the next door open. The missions might as well have been randomly generated, there's no logic to the missions or continuity to any of the game at all. Looking at the patched game and trying to be more or less objective though, things I note are: That was fixed in the patch, but it always makes me shake my head to imagine people paying $50 for a brand new and getting crap like that. I was appalled to find myself constantly getting stuck on invisible geometry. Some of my dislikes are purely personal - I hate the arcadey damage modeling where you have to give everyone multiple sprays with a Thompson at close range before they go down, but that's just my preference. Obviously the graphics are 3 years old but I'm agnostic about graphics, they are great for 2002, the allied models especially are very good. I'm not trying to troll and say this was a bad game, because it wasn't, but after finally going back and playing it I'm seriously underwhelmed. I first saw the trailer for this game showing the Omaha Beach intro at an EB and really lusted after it.
